It was a sunny and warm Sunday afternoon for several people who enjoyed Fall Fest in Jefferson.

About 70 people participated in Jefferson Matters: Main Street’s historical plaque walk. Attendees listened to each of the seven nominee’s stories and voted on their favorite to be on the eleventh bronze plaque in the downtown square. The winner was Beta Tau Delta, who is also celebrating their 100th anniversary this year. Co-Organizer Deb McGinn talks about the sorority and how deserving she thought they were to be the next icon to be on a plaque.dscn4640

“When I researched all of their history and wrote their narrative, it really came out that these women are a caring group of individuals for youth in the community. And it’s not only in our community, it’s in Greene County, which I really liked.”

Artists were also invited to the square for In Plein Air, where they can draw and paint the square outside. Denice Peters from Denison was one of the artists and she says she is a frequent participant of In Plein events.

“All over, down to Omaha to the Losses Hills, Montana Pisgah, that type of thing. I also do some around the Denison area, but mostly I’m a studio painter.”

The evening wrapped up with a meet and greet for the Greene County Chamber Director Roccie Hill and there was a freewill offering barbecue meal as a fundraiser for the Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
