Webster City proved to be the more physical team early and stepped on the gas in the second quarter with five first half touchdowns including 4 in the second en route to a 55-0 win over Perry Friday night.  The Bluejays were no match for the physical play of the Linx.

Perry hit the road for the district two contest and couldn’t muster up much of anything offensively against a powerful Webster City defense that limited the Bluejays to under 100 yards of offense and handed Perry it’s third shutout loss of the season.  The Linx meanwhile rushed for over 400 yards and completed just one pass, although that went for a 30 yard touchdown.

Through 6 games Webster City’s talented running back Robert Fredrickson was leading Class 3-A with 1156 yards and was 2nd with 15 rushing touchdowns, added nearly 150 more with two touchdowns including a 4 yard run that kicked off the scoring on the Linx first possession of the ball game.  That was the only score of the 1st quarter which ended with the score at 7-0 favoring Webster City.

Another 4 yard run, this time from Drew Fielder, kicked off second quarter scoring explosion including two big plays and an 8 yard Fredrickson score that came with 2:36 left in the first half.  The Linx two big plays were sandwiched in-between the the runs from Fielder and Fredrickson and included a 59 yard punt return from Payton Kannuan with 7:33 to go in the half.  The ensuing kick off was fumbled by Perry and recovered by Webster City at Bluejay 30 yard line.  The linx wasted no time running play action with Kannuan rolling to his left and finding a wide open Zane Carter for a score that was only 14 seconds after Kannuan’s punt return for a score.  Webster City led 35-0 at the half.

The running clock was in effect for the second half and the Linx didn’t let up.  Dylan Steen filled in for Drew Fielder who went down with a shoulder injury on a touchdown saving kick off return by Perry’s Reece Dunlap on a play that ended up being called back by a Bluejay penalty. Steen took advantage of his opportunity scoring on back to back runs nearly six and a half minutes apart, amassing 101 yards on those carries with scores from 60 and 41 yards out.

Webster City moves to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in district 2 with playoff hopes on the line the next two weeks.  The Bluejays will look to bounce back next week in Jefferson in a rivalry game against fellow Raccoon Valley Radio foe Greene County.  Both teams are looking for their first District 2 win, Perry is 2-4 overall and the Greene County Rams are 0-7 overall.
