They say that one of the ways to help a team improve upon a certain aspect is to spring off of the strong points for that team.

For the 2016-17 edition of ADM Lady Tiger basketball they are seeking to become a better scoring team, especially early on in games. Last year ADM put up 298 first quarter points, third best for the team and third best in the entire Raccoon River Conference. Last season with a more veteran group the Lady Tigers put up 42 total first quarter points through the first four games while this season a younger Tiger squad has posted up just 25 first quarter points through four games.

One of the components that ADM has done a great job at is in the rebounding category currently second in the conference with 133 total rebounds. Rebounding is something that ADM head girls basketball coach Rick Dillinger notes as one thing that could significantly impact ADM’s early scoring in a positive way.

Coach Dillinger spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio on what his team needs to improve upon on starting with the rebounding which will positively impact scoring.

“We’ve got to make put backs and we’ve got to make layups. The big thing is we’ve got to get stronger with the ball and number two we’ve got to learn bank board position as far as where to shoot the ball off the bank board and we’ve work hard on that the past few days and we’ve also got to learn how to hold on to the ball, we’ve had too many turnovers. Some of that’s just learning to play together and some of that’s fundamentals,” stated coach Dillinger

Coach Dillinger also noted that while ADM’s rebounding numbers may look good on paper they still have room to improve because stats can sometimes be misleading.

“Stats are sometimes misleading, I’m talking about the rebounding because think about this, if you miss an offensive shot your close then you miss and get your own rebound you have three rebounds and you haven’t put the ball in the hole. Statistics are statistics,” explained coach Dillinger.

Friday, the Lady Tigers will be back in action fresh off of their long lay off taking to the road for conference game number two in Winterset taking on the Huskies. Their game will be game one of a girl/boy double header kicking things off at 6:00 pm but you can start with pregame coverage on K107.9FM beginning at 5:45 pm.
