Poinsettias are popular holiday time plants that often decorate homes and businesses across the country.

The Guthrie County Extension office says there are a few easy things you can do to make the most out of the plants this winter.

When picking one out, experts say look for a plant with dark green foliage and bright colored bracts and purchase it at the end of your shopping trip to prevent it from getting damaged by cold weather.

The poinsettia should be unwrapped as soon as you get home and placed near a sunny window but not touching it.

When the dirt becomes dry to the touch, water the plant until water starts to flow out of the bottom of the pot.
