The City of Perry is reminding residents of the local ordinance.

Vehicles are not allowed on any public street, alley or city owned off street parking area during a snow emergency.  These are declared any time there is a half inch or more of snow.  Those who do not obey the parking ordinance are subject to being towed and fined.

Deputy Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says the ordinance is in place to help make snow removal as efficient as possible.

“It just helps make our job so much faster, so much easier, we don’t have to worry about hitting anything.  So the best advice to anyone is if the news is talking snow, don’t park on the street.  Even if it doesn’t (snow), it’ll save everyone a lot of work.”

Additionally, property owners in the residential district are required to remove snow and ice accumulations from sidewalks within 48 hours and those in the business district have 12 hours from when the snow and ice stops falling.  Violators may have their sidewalks shoveled by City staff and be assessed the cost.
