Greene County is finished with Heart of Iowa Activities Conference boys’ basketball games until they host Gilbert on Jan. 6. The other conference schools have HOIAC games tonight, but all Greene County has left in December is a girl/boy doubleheader in non-conference action with Boone this Thursday night in the middle school gym.
Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams are 5-1 in the conference and 6-2 overall, their best start in several seasons. PCM (Monroe) and South Hamilton (Jewell) are both 4-0 in the league and they were to have met each other on Dec. 16, but that was postponed by weather. Gilbert is 3-2 in the conference, while the other five teams all have three or four conference losses. The Rams lost at home last Tuesday to SH by four points and haven’t played PCM yet. The conference victories are over Nevada, Roland-Story, Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, North Polk, and Saydel. The Cubs and Norsemen each have three conference victories, but the Raiders, Comets, and Eagles, are still looking for their first HOIAC victories.
The Boone and Greene County basketball twin bill can be heard on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com on Thursday. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
