A Greene County Secondary Roads Department outlying shop in Scranton will have a new location in the future.

County Engineer Wade Weiss says their current shop in Scranton is located along the Lincoln Highway and due to the age of the building (built in 1937), a leaky roof and poor visibility, he wanted to find a new location.

A two and a half acre property became available about one mile north of the current shop location at 1609 Kendrick Street. Last Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors approved a $500 payment of earnest money toward the purchase of the property. The purchase price is $26,500.

Weiss notes that he would like to clean up the property when the County takes ownership of it. The ultimate goal is to make the property the new location for their Scranton shop. Another idea Weiss has is to put a shell of a building on the property and move some of their cold storage equipment from the former National Guard Armory building that was recently sold to the Greene County School District for a bus barn. The shell would then eventually get insulated and be used as a main shop area.

However, no final plans have been made for the property.
