Phone Scammers are targeting many citizens in Stuart including the Police and Fire Department

Stuart Police Chief Dave Reha says,

No one is exempt from scam phone calls in Stuart lately, including the local police and fire departments.

“Phone scamming is affecting everybody in small towns and big cities, the main way you can tell if someone is a scammer is if they are asking for money right away.”  That’s Stuart Police Chief Dave Reha.

The Chief thinks that most of the bigger scams are coming from different countries.  He says if you are receiving messages or phone calls from someone saying they represent city hall or Stuart Utilities, it’s most likely a scam as these places already have your information on file.

“The best thing you can do is not give out your personal information.”

Scammers are able to disguise a number when calling you but they can not receive incoming calls on that same local number.

If you have any questions or want to report a scam, contact the local police department.
