GC Music BannerSeveral Greene County High School students performed well at last weekend’s Iowa High School Music Association Solo and Small Ensemble contest.

Band director Wes Anderson says there were 22 groups and individuals that competed on Saturday including 14 solos and eight ensembles. Of those, eight received a division I-rating, nine earned a II-rating, three received a III-rating and two only took comments from the judges.

Choir director Dave Heupel says all of his choir students competed in one of four chamber choirs. The freshmen girls received a II-rating, the sophomore girls had a III-rating, the junior and senior girls earned a I-rating and the boys chamber choir received a II-rating. The madrigal choir, which sings 500-year old a cappella music, received a I-rating. Additionally, there were six soloists. Michael Kennedy earned a I-rating, while Jack Schilling, Kaitlin Tjostem, Arthur Bardole, Hannah Yetter and Kara Betts each received a II-rating.

Both Anderson and Heupel appreciated all the help from parent and student volunteers to make the contest go as smoothly as possible.
