Local veterans will have the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to our nation’s capitol as part of the Honor Flight.
Five Greene County veterans are scheduled to travel to Washington, D.C. this weekend with other area veterans on the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight. Those individuals include Larry Brus of Churdan, along with Louis Swanson, Carter Fetters, Jerry Spaulding and Jack Davis from Jefferson. Brus, Swanson, Fetters and Spaulding are Vietnam War veterans and Davis is a Korean War veteran.
We’ve previously reported that businesses and individuals that donated to the honor flight have made it possible for Greene County veterans to go. Greene County is part of a multi-county region with the Brushy Creek Honor Flight program. It is based solely on the application number that veterans are assigned when their application is received. The final decisions are then made by a volunteer board with no county having priority over another. Greene County has nine additional veterans waiting to go on a future flight. The next scheduled one is in September.
Anyone wishing to send donations for future veteran flights, can do so by check to Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight, 320 South 12th Street, Fort Dodge, Iowa 50501.
