Post West Central Activities Conference meet and pre-district qualifying, both Panorama girls and boys golf teams were in weekend action on Saturday.
The Lady Panthers were at the Audubon Golf & Country Club where they tied for third in the Wheeler Invitational while the Panther boys squad fought their way for a fifth place finish out of a 12 team field in Carroll.
The Lady Panthers came off a solid conference meet finish earlier and finished off the week by striking a 470 team score through 18 holes in Audubon. That score gave Panorama a tie for third place with East Union; second place for the meet was awarded to Exira-Elk-Horn-Kimbalton shooting 463 while Audubon won it all with a 443. Panorama had three golfers make the top ten individual list with both Anna Duis and Lauren McClathey notching a pair of 115’s tied for 7th on the meet. Meanwhile Cassie Labath etched in a 118 followed by Alex Kurtz shooting 122 and Savana Mobley with a 132.
The boys field in Carroll was a larger 12 team field that packed some punch with 8 3A teams, 3 2A teams, and one 1A team. Through it all the class 2A third ranked Panthers ended their fourth consecutive meet with a tie for fifth place at 331 strokes through 18 holes. Spencer would take 4th with a 328, host Kuemper third with a 326, Webster City earned second with a 324, and all were blown away with Atlantic’s winning stroke count of 312. Panorama may not have gotten first as a team but did send an individual to the top of the medalist stand as Will Babcock took a meet best score of a two over par 73. For the first time all season, coach Hal Rossow’s squad did not have all three top golfers not make it into 70’s with their scores. George Appleseth and Kolby Shackelford would follow at a distance shooting 81 and 83 respectively on the day followed by Mitch Wagler with a 94.
Next up the Panther boys will take their first step in 2017 postseason play with the district meet at the 5 x 80 golf course this Friday in Stuart beginning at 10:00 am.
