Details leading up to the death of 16-year-old Sabrina Ray were recently released.
According to court documents, Sabrina’s adopted parents, Marc and Misty Ray, denied food and water to the teen and her two adopted sisters, who they kept confined against their will in their home. Reports show Misty’s 20-year-old niece Josie Bousman admitted to her participation in the alleged treatment of the victims, along with Misty’s mom, 62-year-old Carla Bousman. Each were arrested and charged with with three class A felonies for aiding and abetting kidnapping in the first degree. The interview also led to three additional charges of kidnapping for Marc and Misty.
Another suspect, 21-year-old Justin Ray, who is Marc and Misty’s biological son, was also arrested Wednesday. Court documents show that between April 15th and May 1st, he allegedly drop-kicked Sabrina down the basement stairs. Sabrina suffered injuries that made it difficult to walk, talk, eat or drink anything. Justin also allegedly kicked Sabrina in the chin, resulting in bruising and a laceration sometime between March 1st and May 12th. Pending autopsy results, Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn stated in a recent press conference that it’s unknown if the injuries Justin caused contributed to Sabrina’s death. Vaughn described how upsetting it is to deal with a case where an entire family was involved.

“Well, it’s very concerning to us, as you can tell, the amount of people that had knowledge of it. There are a lot of resources out there available to people. And we would hope that they would take advantage of those, not only for counseling and for people that are having difficulty maybe with a child in the home, but also as far as food and providing for that child, too.”
Justin, Carla, and Josie will each have their initial court hearing on Monday, June 12th at 11 a.m. Carla and Josie are each being held in the Dallas County jail under a $1 million bond, and Justin is being held on a $100,000 cash only bond. See below for a full list of charges for each individual.
