Lynn Ubben with Graduates

After an eight-year run as the Perry Schools Superintendent which capped a 27-year career as a school administrator, Lynn Ubben is near the end of her journey.

As of July 1st, Ubben will be officially retired and take her leave of education for the first time in more than three decades. Her final School Board meeting was held June 12th, and though initially it didn’t have a sense of finality, she’s sure in the coming months the reality will set in. “You know, it didn’t really feel any different when I went home. Visiting with my husband and talking about ‘Okay, I have been going to school board meetings for 27 years!’ And so, probably not until next month and the next month will it feel a little bit different.”

Now that her education career is over, Ubben plans to spend a great deal of time with family. She and her husband plan on staying around Perry and attending as many school activities as possible. She admits when she first came to the school she didn’t know much about it, but after eight years she says the school and community have both become important to her.

“Perry is just a really neat place. When I first came I said, ‘You know, I don’t think a lot of people know about Perry. This is really a gem.’ I think that we have some really neat kids, and a neat community. This is a great place to be, so I want to thank the community and the kids and the staff. It’s just been an awesome experience.”
