The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, the Board discussed changes in the revenues and services with public health, ahead of their meeting with the Board of Health in July.
The Board also agreed to allow Assistant to the County Attorney Thomas Laehn to purchase Pro Law software. Laehn said it will help with efficiencies in the County Attorney’s office to not have to re-enter court documents. Laehn also got the go-ahead to utilize an overall server in Des Moines to keep documents on. The annual fee would be between $6,745 to $7,370 depending on if each individual person in the County Attorney’s office is a user with the cloud system.
The Board then heard an update from Jefferson Matters: Main Street Program Director Peg Raney. She talked about collaborating with other groups for the third rooftop art project, Ring Out for Art project, the Community Development Block Grant downtown revitalization project and wayfinding signage project.
The Board then approved the final payment following a completion hearing for work done in drainage districts 2 and 27.
The Board also heard an update from Mental Health Coordinator Ellen Ritter. She said that the regional mental health board approved three new service coordinator positions. One for Guthrie and Audubon counties and two for Dallas County. She also mentioned that she has been in contact with Greene County High School counselor Kyle Kinney about hiring and individual to work with school age kids on mental health.
Additionally, the Board heard an update from Genesis Development CEO Terry Johnson. He said they are working with two grants in the Guthrie County area to provide their Discovery program and employment services. He mentioned that they closed work sites in Boone and Storm Lake, but will keep the Jefferson facility open for the time being.
The Board then reviewed the county’s health insurance plan. The county currently has a 111-percent loss ratio, when it should be 75-percent. The reserves are currently at -$47,712 halfway through the calendar year and total claims that have been paid are $625,690.
Finally, the Board approved a renewal of their partnership with Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP) and tabled their decision for additional coverage to their insurance plan until Supervisor Dawn Rudolph was at a future meeting. They also also approved to appropriate 85-percent of the 2018 fiscal year funds to all departments, along with the salaries and wage rates for the 2018 fiscal year.
Sheriff Jack Williams said he is looking into contracting with a company to transport individuals for mental health committals, to help save time and money on his department.
