Today the class 3A high school state baseball tournament will commence in Des Moines and with it the Raccoon River Conference will be in full representation with the Bondurant-Farrar Blue Jays.
As the Blue Jays make their third appearance to the state tournament in school history, they represent the third straight season that the Raccoon River Conference has been represented at the big dance. They follow up a team they had to defeat in order to get to Des Moines in Carlisle who came just one win short of of the crown last year.
Last year the Wildcats were the third ranked team in the tournament and this year the Blue Jays are the 8th ranked team in the tournament. The Blue Jays will be playing in the first 3A game of the day at 11:00 am up against the tournaments top seed in Davenport (Assumption). Their game will be followed by 4th seeded Dubuque (Wahlert) and 5th seeded Marion at 1:30 pm. The two evening games start with Missouri River Conference member Bishop Heelen (Sioux City) as the 3rd seed up against 6th seeded Saydel from the Heart Of Iowa Conference at 5:00 pm. Finally, the night cap will include reigning champion Harlan as the 2nd seed up against 7th seeded Oskaloosa beginning at 7:30 pm.
As for ADM’s tie in, they have faced Bondurant-Farrar twice this season in conference play and was one of just 5 conference teams to beat the Blue Jays. The Tigers split the season series with the Blue Jays as both earned road victories against each other. ADM was the only Raccoon River Conference team to defeat the Blue Jays in Bondurant all season.
