Dallas Co Supervisors

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday morning in regular session.

Representatives from around the County, including Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson and Dawson Mayor Breanna Morman, attended the meeting to present the countywide local option sales tax petition. The County Auditor’s Office had reviewed the petition ahead of the meeting, determining there were 2,135 valid signatures. Peterson also presented 29 additional signatures at the meeting. The petition needed 1,929 signatures in order to be considered by the Supervisors to put the measure on the ballot. The Supervisors approved the receipt and filing of the petition, as well as setting the date for the special election on November 7th, to coincide with the general election.

A large portion of the meeting was then spent discussing the first draft of an ordinance related to pioneer cemeteries. County Attorney Wayne Reisetter drafted the ordinance based on a similar one in Iowa County, and the Board’s preferences. No decision was reached at the meeting, and the Board is expected to continue the discussion at future meetings. The Supervisors also approved several resolutions, including: establishing a county employee health screening and blood draw event; an out-of-state travel request for the County Recorder; and an amended contract for the “I Am Responding” subscription for the Emergency Medical Service and Sheriff’s offices.

The meeting concluded with a department workshop for the Treasurer’s Office.
