habitourA new fundraiser for Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is happening later this month.

Associate Director Jeff Lamoureux says their HabiTour is a bike riding fundraiser where riders have three choices of distances along the Raccoon River Valley Trail. The ride starts at the trailhead in Jefferson. The 30-mile route goes down to Jamaica and back. The 50-mile ride is to Panora and back. The 100-mile route follows around the north loop of the trail back through Perry and ends in Jefferson.

Lamoureux is asking for each individual to raise $100 to enter the bike ride. He points out how the first-ever fundraiser was created.

“It was a brainchild of our Executive Director Erich Krezinger, who is an avid bike rider, and he’s done similar bike rides. There’s actually one in Minnesota that he’s done for years, the Habitat 500, where he rides 100 miles for five days. And that was a fundraiser for the (Habitat affiliates). So he thought, ‘Well why not and could we do something similar but on a smaller scale and bring it back to Iowa?’”

The bike ride takes place on Saturday, August 26th. To register, click the link below.
