Senior Alexis Garrido will be the opening night starter at quarterback when Perry travels to North Polk this Friday night for the season opener. Garrido earned the starting job midway through the season last year and looked good at times learning the position. Co-coach Ben Coy says Garrido has continued to improve.
“Yeah, he has really enjoyed a nice fall camp. He throws the deep ball fairly well and continues to show improvement with more repetitions. He missed a couple passes to the inside in our scrimmage but he will learn from the mistakes and move forward. Right now the focus is on getting him comfortable with the system through a lot of reps.”
Garrido threw one touchdown last year while getting picked four times. He threw for 402 yards while completing 44% of his passes.
