labor dayThe Labor Day weekend signifies the unofficial end of summer, and there are lots of opportunities to relax in county parks, lakes, and recreational areas.

In Guthrie County, there are also a couple events for the whole family to enjoy. The Guthrie County Fair kicks off today and runs through Monday. The Panora Cy-Hawk Beach Battle will also rock the shores of Lake Panorama on Monday with activities starting at 2pm.

It’s certainly a good weekend to enjoy the outdoors, but Guthrie County Conservation Director Joe Hanner thinks the conditions will be perfect a little longer. “It’s a great weekend for the public to get out and enjoy natural resources and outdoor recreation, but I want (everyone) to understand that the best camping of the year starts as we get into mid-September and mid-October, even the end of October.”

On Monday, all non-essential public offices will be closed in Stuart, Panora, and Guthrie Center. This includes city halls, schools, libraries, post offices, and the Guthrie County courthouse. The Board of Supervisors will meet as normal on Tuesday and Stuart garbage pick-up will be unaffected.
