An investigation is ongoing into an animal cruelty case involving two dead dogs.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was notified around 6pm Monday of a  Black Laboratory and an  English Setter deceased in a ditch about 2 miles west of Dana.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says that sometime last week the owner, Curt Donahe of Farnhamville let his two hunting dogs out for a run on his property when they got loose and didn’t return.  Donahe posted on Facebook about his lost dogs.

Haupert states that four or five days later, Lynn Price of Paton came across two boys who found the dead dogs ten miles away in a ditch just outside of Dana.  She knew about the dogs because of Donahe’s Facebook message and contacted him and then notified the Sheriff’s Office.

Haupert reports that the English Setter appeared to have been brutally beaten and the Black Lab was shot.  Currently, the investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been named.  Haupert says the owner is willing to press charges.
