The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department recently received approval for needed improvements to the Greene County Community Center.

JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says the People Active in Community Exercise (PACE) approved her list of improvements to the community center.

“We have one more HVAC unit that needs to be replaced. Our center curtain also needs to be replaced. Also, the partitions in the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms (need to be replaced). They’re made of metal and they’re starting to rust and the doors are not in very good shape. We’re going to have those replaced also.”

The total cost for the replacements is $22,500. Lautner points out that half of the payment for the projects will come from PACE and the other half will come from hotel/motel tax and local option sales and services tax.

She says PACE is in charge of allocating funds for the community center, and the organization has been in existence for about 40 years. The group recently asked the parks and rec board if they would want to take over the account. The Board’s decision will be made at a future meeting.
