March is a busy month this year. There is St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), first day of spring (March 20) and Easter (March 31). March is also the month that daylight saving time begins.
This Sunday, March 10th at 2am (Central Standard Time) daylight saving time officially begins. So Raccoon Valley Radio listeners are reminded to adjust your clocks ahead one hour at that time.
Greene County Middle School Science Teacher Gerry Stein says that because daylight hours will be longer that will impact animals in a different way than humans. He says that when daylight hours decrease, animals like horses and cattle grow their hair longer to keep warmer during the fall and winter months whereas in the spring and summer, their hair is shorter. So daylight saving time means you’ll see a physical change on animals.
Every year, daylight saving time starts in the spring and ends in the fall. This year, daylight saving time ends on November 3rd.
