Dig for a Cure 1

Perry’s varsity athletic teams are showing their commitment to important causes this week, holding two different fundraisers.

On Tuesday night, the volleyball team hosted their annual “Dig for a Cure” event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The team dressed in pink, as did many fans, in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There were t-shirt sales, a “Jeans Day” fundraiser, and a donation bucket at the game. Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks, a cancer survivor himself, was touched by the proceedings. “What a beautiful night! You know, everybody dressed out in pink and looking good. And good spirit around here, not only for a Bluejay cause, but for a cancer cause, too. Research has come so far, so these events that can help cancer research help so many more people, and it gives everybody a fighting chance.”

Of course, the fundraisers aren’t done for the week, as the Perry football team is hosting “American Night” to benefit the Puppy Jake Foundation during tomorrow’s football game. The foundation is a nonprofit organization that trains service dogs for veterans with mobility issues and post traumatic stress disorder. The team has been selling t-shirts and accepting donations of dog collars, leashes, and toys for the cause. People can donate items or purchase t-shirts at the high school office or at the game tomorrow night.
