Greene County Extension is offering their annual two-day class for youngsters looking to get into babysitting.
Babysitting Basics is for youth in grades fifth through eighth. Participants will learn about the responsibilities of being a babysitter, what employers expect, ideas for how to entertain children, how to handle emergencies, provide first aid and other safety pointers and how to care for children of different ages in the home. Extension Director Lori Mannel says Babysitting Basics is a very popular program.
“We utilize our families programming, as well as our youth programming through our 4-H (coordinator). So we encourage kids to sign up. They like to earn a little extra income about that age and it also allows the families to feel better. They’ll say, ‘What kids have taken the Babysitting Basics?’ And then we have a list and those could be potential people they call for babysitting.”
It will be held at the Extension office from 2 to 5pm on Wednesday, October 18th and Saturday, October 21st from 8am to noon. Cost is $25 before October 12th or $35 after the 12th.
Call 386-2138 or stop by the Extension office to sign up.
