Recently, the selections for the 2017 Opus Honor Choir were announced. Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Junior High student Tommy Bates found his name on the list for the second consecutive year.
The eighth grader qualified as a bass. Vocal Director Kelsey Moran explains the process to audition for the ensemble. “Kids get a selection of music that they have to learn and then I have to record them singing a portion of that as well as a scale and ‘My Country Tis of Thee’. Then I submit those audio files and they are judged.”
Opus selects 5th-9th graders from across the state. The performance is Thursday, November 16th at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University. Moran also has ten students auditioning for All State in Atlantic on Saturday, plus there are two trumpet soloists who will also audition this weekend.
