The ACGC girls basketball team already has a regular season match under their belt. The Lady Chargers fell short at Audubon, 50-52. Even with the loss, the girls scored the most points in their short program history. They’ll have their second opportunity to post half a century tomorrow night against Madrid.
Last season the Lady Tigers posted a 8-14 record, just four games better than the Lady Chargers inaugural season record. The Lady Tigers return their leading scorer, and arguably one of Madrid’s best athletes, senior Shayla Peters. Last season Peters averaged nearly 13.5 points and five rebounds per game. Peters also returns with the team’s best shooting and free throw percentages. Peters will be joined by two junior starters Sarah Eagleton and Kyra Troendle. Eagleton buried a team high 26 three-pointers in her sophomore season.
The Lady Chargers will have keep finding ways to score without last season’s leader, Madison Berger. Berger was sidelined with an injury early during practice and will likely miss the opener. Junior Sierra O’Brien led the way for the Lady Chargers against Audubon with 15 points, including the team’s lone three-point basket. Senior Morgan Meacham also recorded a double-double, with 12 points and 18 rebounds. In last year’s win at Madrid, O’Brien put up ten points, while Meacham recorded eight points and eleven rebounds.
The game begins at 6 pm in Guthrie Center. You can catch the pre-game, in-game, and post-game analysis on KKRF2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
