The Greene County girls scored the first two points of the game vs. unbeaten and sixth ranked Roland-Story (Story City) in Jefferson on Tuesday night. The Norsemen must not have liked falling behind as they scored the next 18 points and rolled to a 70-32 victory to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams are now 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The game was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Sophomore Kylie Tjernagel had 17 points and senior Jenna Clark added 14 for the visiting team. R-S made 25 of 58 shots from the floor including nine of 29 shots beyond the arc. The Norsemen had 11 turnovers and went nine of 17 shooting free throws.
Senior Laurin Lyons had eight points, all in the opening half, to lead the Rams. Senior Ashley Millard added seven points and sophomore Bailey Cunningham had six. Greene County was 12 of 48 from the field and seven of 15 from the foul line. The Rams went one of 10 on three-point shots and they turned the ball over 26 times.
Greene County meets number 15 North Polk (Alleman) on Friday at 2 p.m. inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The boys game will follow.
