The postseason trail has hit the regional semifinal round for Class 2A’s No. 3 Panorama girl basketball team (21-1 overall). The Panthers, the top seed in Class 2A Region 6, is back at home tonight hosting the Martensdale St. Mary’s Blue Devils (18-5 overall) for a spot in Monday’s championship game. Panorama bested Martensdale St Mary’s in an early December nonconference game, 60-23.

Panorama advanced to tonight’s semifinal game by beating the team who ended their season one year ago, the Van Meter Bulldogs, by a 51-31 final score. Junior Baliey Beckman highlighted the Panthers with 16 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Junior Morgan Johnk added eight points, eight rebounds, and five assists. The victory is the 20th in a row for Panorama dating back to late November.

Martensdale St. Mary’s comes into tonight off a 46-42 victory Tuesday against the Pleasantville Trojans. The Blue Devils got balanced scoring in the victory with six players scoring six or more points and no one recording double figures in the win. Sophomore Jensen Archibald is Martensdale St Mary’s leading scorer, averaging 13.7 points per game. Archibald is also the Blue Devil’s steal leader with 54 on the season.
