The topic of annexation is once again at the forefront for the City of Adel.
At a recent meeting, the Adel City Council voted to start the annexation process for over 300 acres of land south of the City. The area would include land south of 302nd Place, and in between Highway 169 and Old Portland Road. The process was started by Cramer and Associates, Inc, which submitted a 100% voluntary annexation request to the City. The plans for the area include apartment complexes, row homes, commercial space, and even the possibility of a new school for the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District.
Over the coming weeks, the City will meet with County officials, as well as the Adel and Van Meter Townships, to consult on the annexation. The first public hearing will be held at the City Council meeting in April. The Council acknowledges previous attempts to annex land south of the City were met with concerns about infrastructure. However, they emphasize that research has already been done concerning the issue, and nothing is set in stone regarding the development in the area.
The most recent attempt by Adel to annex land south of the City failed, after one of the landowners participating in the voluntary annexation pulled out at the last minute.
