Landus Cooperative recently announced plans to turn an idle facility into a new beef feed distribution center in Jefferson.
The cooperative acquired the former soy flakes manufacturer facility in 2012, following Landus’s merger. The building was originally built by a Japanese company to manufacture soy flakes for tofu and has been sitting vacant since 2010. The 226,000-square-foot building will be transitioned into a beef feed distribution center, adjacent to Landus’s current grain, agronomy and SoyChlor operations site off East Central Avenue.
Operations are anticipated to begin this summer. The new facility will have: bulk feed pick-up and delivery services available, grain bank available similar to Landus’s other feed locations, texturized feed immediately with pelleted feed coming in the future and access to a team of nutrition experts. The company also plans to sell bagged feed in tubs and other nutritional products on site.

Landus Cooperative Feed Operations Manager Chris Wallace will manage the new facility. The transition process is going on now with the removal of soy flaking equipment and replacing it with beef mixing equipment.
The current assessed value of the property is $725,000.
