The year’s first unemployment figures are in for Iowa.

All three counties in our primary coverage area saw large jumps in unemployment in January. According to Iowa Workforce Development, Guthrie County went up from 2.6-percent unemployment in December to 4.2-percent in January. Greene County’s unemployment saw an increase from 2-percent in December to 2.9-percent in January. The percentage of those without a job in January in Dallas County was 2.3-percent, which is also an increase from December of 1.8-percent.

Iowa’s unemployment rate for January was 3.6-percent and the national percentage was 4.1-percent.
