As the $21.48 million bond referendum vote happens tomorrow for the Greene County School District, many questions continue to swirl around.

The process surrounding the negotiations for the 80-acres of land, where the proposed new high school and regional career academy would be located, continues to progress. The land, which is south of Highway 30 and east of American Athletic Incorporated, is owned by Mike and Kathy Bravard.  Sid Jones, on behalf of the school district and Our Kids, Our Future Greene County Committee, gives an update on the 1031 Exchange program.

“We have received the third party valuation. From the very beginning, it was important to the Bravard family and it was important to the school system, to come up with what’s the fair value. That’s why a third party was brought into that to try and determine that.”

However, a finalized price has not been settled, but Jones believes it will be disclosed to the public sometime this month, through approval by the school board.

As for the current land that the school district owns by the current high school, Community Steering Committee Member Chris Deal says the previous two bond votes included designs for a new high school and competition gym. However, when including the career academy, that would require additional land south of the high school.

“It’s a heavily wooded area and so there would be a land clearing piece that would come from it. It’s also a very, very poorly drained area, so there would be a lot of drainage that would be required. And finally the site utilities for that ground out there would be further away than the site utilities on the ground that we’re looking at acquiring, let alone if the land owner would be even willing to sell south of the high school.”
