With the conclusion of Speech season comes another set of fine arts contests. On Saturday, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center and Panorama will both send music students to the Class 2A State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival at Ogden High School. AC/GC will be sending 21 instrumental and 12 vocal entries to the Festival.
AC/GC Vocal Director Kelsey Moran explains how the pieces to be performed this weekend were chosen. “Kyra Babcock (Band Director) and I make several of the decisions. She and I chose quite a bit of the literature that the kids are going to be performing, but obviously we’re always open to suggestions. If kids come up with something that they really want to do and dedicate the time to put it together, then absolutely, the sky’s kind of the limit there.”
Panorama will be sending five band and three vocal students to the Festival. The event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $3 for adults and $1 for students. Other schools in attendance include: Des Moines Christian, Earlham, Madrid, Roland-Story, South Hamilton, Southeast Valley, Van Meter, West Central Valley, Woodward Academy, and Woodward-Granger.
