Forward thinking on the part of the coaching staff helped the Panorama track teams get one more opportunity to qualify for the 2018 Drake Relays later this month. Panorama head track coach Greg Thompson spoke to Raccoon Valley Radio Monday afternoon about the team’s recent results and their meet schedule for the rest of the week. He shared with us canceled events earlier in the season helped open up competition dates to use this week for Drake qualifying. “I along with my athletic director, Mrs. Kirtley, started searching for meets about three weeks ago,” Thompson said, “I came across four or five to give the option to Mrs. Kirtley and had her check to see if we could get into any of those (would work).”

Thompson said him and Mrs. Kirtley decided on going to East Union today for a co-ed track meet. The event will feature athletes from Central Decatur, Des Moines Christian, East Union, Lamoni, Lenox, Mormon Trail, Murray, and Orient-Macksburg. First events of the East Union Co-Ed Relays begins at 4:30 p.m. from Afton. The deadline to qualify for the 2018 Drake Relays is midnight tonight.
