Greene County was a 7-0 boys’ soccer winner on Monday in Grand Junction vs. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opponent PCM (Monroe). It was Coach Carl Behne’s second game in a row vs. the Mustangs as the Rams were 7-1 winners on Saturday in the Des Moines Christian tournament.

The Class 1A 16th ranked Rams are 8-5 on the season. Luis Velazco, Leo Marques, and Junior Gutierrez each had two goals and Luis Tuesta added one goal on a sunny, warm, and extremely windy day. Tuesta and Cael Fisher each had a pair of assists, while Jordan Patterson and Velazco each had one.

Coach Behne said his team played well despite the extremely windy conditions. “It was nice to have six assists on our seven goals. We had many other chances to put a few more in, but overall pleased with the effort.” The coach added goal keeper Kyle Peters had a solid match, and he praised Velazco. “Luis was the unsung hero of the game with two goals that were from pure hustle and determination. Luis stepped up nicely for an injured (Isaiah) Losee.”

The Greene County girls lost 10-0 on Monday on the road in Nevada. Coach Marilyn Tasler’s team faced the fourth ranked team in 1A and the Rams weren’t able to prevent the Cubs from winning their fifth match in a row. Nevada improved to 9-2 while Greene County fell to 1-7.
