Last night, representatives from several community organizations gathered at the Guthrie Activity Center for the third annual “Celebrate Guthrie Center” event. The event began with a social followed by a dinner catered by Cabbage Rose Restaurant.
Following the dinner a few representatives gave updates on their respective organizations or entities. Main Street Guthrie Center (MSGC) Director Dana Buster updated those gathered on the Williams Building renovations. Since purchasing the historic, downtown structure, MSGC has finished remodeling one of the three spaces and will hopefully begin the next phase of the project this summer.
Mayor Dennis Kunkle highlighted the City’s water main and street overlay improvements in the past year, as well as the beginning stages of the Mitchell Park renovations. Guthrie Center Area Development Group President Dennis Flanery informed those present of their ongoing projects and mentioned there is $37,000 in unallocated finances in their revolving loan fund. He says any Guthrie Center business who needs capital for an upcoming project is eligible to apply.
Flanery also gave an update on renovations to the activity center. He says roofing enhancements and new lighting installments should be completed in the next two weeks. The chamber of commerce, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center school district, all-school reunion committee, and an incoming dentistry practice all gave updates as well.
