In case you forgot, tonight the Perry Public Library is hosting a “Blast Off” event to officially reveal the “Discover Space” exhibit.
The program has been several years coming, after Library Director Mary Murphy successfully applied for a grant to bring it in. Deputy Library Director Misty Von Behren says there’s been a buzz around the library ever since the exhibit arrived, and she’s anxious to kick things off. “We’re just so excited, it’s been years in the making. I think it’s been at least three years when we were notified that we received this grant, where we were one of eight libraries nationwide (to get it). So it’s a huge deal, and it’s an awesome opportunity for our library and for our community.”
The exhibit involves 12 different kiosks devoted to educating people about outer space. Attendees at tonight’s event will be given cards to check off that they’ve tried each of the kiosks. The library will then draw one of the completed cards, and the winner will get a family pack to the Science Center of Des Moines. Additionally, people can sign up at tonight’s event to participate in the “Discover Space” summer reading program, where there are more prizes in store for participants.
Tonight’s event is for all ages, will run from 6-8 p.m., and there is no cost to attend.
