April 14th through the 20th is recognized as National Library Week and the Perry Public Library has several events planned to celebrate.

Library Director Mary Murphy says service to the community is the focus of the Perry Public Library and is glad this week helps remind people of that.

“It’s awesome that we get a week set aside just to say ‘hey we’re giving back to the community, we are your resource for what you need for information, for entertainment, for education.  We want to be there for you'” says Murphy.

Often times libraries are thought of just as a place to check out books but Murphy says they offer much more than that.

“Our collections include DVDs, Cds with music, downloadable e-books, downloadable audio books, we have audio books in the library, we have large print books and the children’s department.  You can check out all those things” says Murphy.  “But our services that we have for our community are public access computers that are free.  All you have to have is a library card and anybody in Iowa can get a card for the Perry Public Library.”

Anyone who stops by this week can enjoy a cookie from the Friends of the Perry Public Library as they explore all there is to do and learn right here in Perry.
