The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board met Wednesday in regular session.
The meeting started with a discussion and follow up on a timber management program possibility. Board member Lee Horbach spoke with an Iowa Department of Natural Resources representative about removing trees at Daubendiek Park. The DNR representative said the amount of salvageable timber wouldn’t be cost effective for both parties to be a possibility. The goal of the program is to have a company pay to remove the timber in exchange for harvesting the overgrown timber to be used for projects. The Board will instead consider local options to control and better maintain the timber situation at Daubendiek Park.
The other topic the Board discussed was possibly installing a shade area at the city swimming pool. A resident asked about putting a shade area near the baby pool. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner noted that the resident said she is willing to provide funds as match toward a grant. The Board agreed to have Lautner look into the project.
