Thousands of bicyclists will be enjoying the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) as it kicks off today in Onawa as cyclists make their way to the first overnight stop in Denison.
Greene County will be put in the spotlight tomorrow, as Jefferson was selected as the overnight stop for that evening. Greene County Chamber and Tourism Interim Director Michael Reese encourages Greene County businesses to be open that day.
“I know it’s probably easy to shut your doors for the day or to be apart of the festivities but I would just like to give the piece of advice, make sure that you keep your doors open. You’re going to have a lot of people poking around. It should be very good revenue-wise for all of our businesses.”
He adds that RAGBRAI is a perfect opportunity to showcase the other amenities that Greene County has to offer.
“We have so many things to offer in Greene County right now as far as our attractions. And we also want to show-off the momentum that the community has. It’s not so far fetched to say a handful of these people will be back to explore Jefferson. We always have the opportunity to really impress people enough where they may want to come and actually put tent stakes down here.”
Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will also be on hand broadcasting live from the downtown square in Jefferson on Monday from 1 to 7pm. We live be playing music and making local announcements throughout the afternoon and early evening as well.
