We continue to review Greene County’s 2017-18 high school sports year with a look back at basketball. The boys’ team went 12-11 and the girls were 5-16.
Coach Chris Nelson’s boys had a second straight winning season, something Rams teams hadn’t accomplished for several years. Trey Hinote, a junior guard, and senior post Wade Adcock, were first team all-conference selections in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, while junior guard Lance Hughes was on the second team. Seniors Ben Bravard and Joe Towers were on the honorable mention list. The team broke several school records for the six years playing as Greene County.
Coach Dean Lyons stepped down from coaching girls’ basketball after last season and a successor has not yet been named. Greene County had no girls on the all-conference first team, but the daughter of the head coach, Laurin Lyons, was a second team all-conference selection. Senior Samantha Hardaway and sophomore Izzy Bravard were on the honorable mention all-conference list.
