The first competition of the ACGC wrestling season is two weeks from tomorrow at West Central Valley. When the Chargers hit the mats in Stuart, they may have all weight classes represented. This would be the first time not only in ACGC’s history, but also head coach Shawn Danker’s 21 years at Guthrie Center.

Danker says he has a nice mix of newcomers and veterans. Even though they may be new to the high school program, Danker says it won’t take long for them to make an impact. “They’re not inexperienced. They’ve had their time. They’ve been successful in the past. For example, Gage Buttler has been very successful in the past. He’s been to (the Iowa) AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) State Tournament multiple times. That will be definitely beneficial for us.”

Danker also mentioned freshman Gavin Cornelison as a newcomer that will make an immediate impact. Though they won’t be official until tomorrow’s body fat testing, Danker has projected where the majority of his athletes will fall.
