A Perry man is headed to prison for 10 years after being found guilty by a jury of two felony charges of 3rd degree sexual abuse.

Court documents show that 29-year-old Eric Chandler Parmenter was given the maximum sentence for each of the class C felonies, though the sentences will run concurrently so he will spend 10 years in prison instead of 20. He will also pay fines for court costs and victim restitution, will have to register as a sex offender, and maintain a no-contact order with the victim for five years. Parmenter, who had been living in Ankeny but was originally from Perry, was arrested in March by the Perry Police Department. They had conducted a year-long investigation that stemmed from sexual abuse of a female under age 18, which occurred between 2008 and 2010.

He was originally charged with four counts of 3rd degree sexual abuse, but had two counts dropped prior to his trial. He was then found guilty by a jury on September 19th, and sentenced by Judge Gregory Hulse on November 16th. Court documents indicate Parmenter will appeal the verdict and sentencing, which will be reviewed by the Iowa Supreme Court at a later date. Meanwhile, 54-year-old Mark Gordon Parmenter, Eric’s father, has had his trial set for January 7, 2019. The elder Parmenter is being tried for two counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, a class C felony, which allegedly occurred against the same victim as his son.
