It may not be great news, but it also may not be the worst news either. Greene County head boys’ basketball coach Chris Nelson reports leading scorer Trey Hinote suffered a severe right ankle sprain Friday and no bones were broken. Hinote went down after just 3:12 had been played and the Rams leading 14-6 in Jewell vs. Class 2A number five South Hamilton. He crumpled to the floor after making his second three-point shot and needed assistance leaving the floor. The Rams weren’t able to respond without Hinote and lost the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opener, 79-47. Hinote finished with six points. Coach Nelson is thinking his high scoring senior will be out at least three weeks, which takes the Rams into the Holiday break. If that’s the case, the Rams would be without their leading scorer for the next seven games.

Greene County is 0-1 in league play and 2-1 overall and hosts a good Gilbert team in the middle school gym in Jefferson tomorrow night. It’s a girl/boy doubleheader broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
