Willis Ave Bridge

Work has long since been completed on the Willis Avenue Bridge over Frog Creek in Perry, but there’s one last aspect of the project that needs to be finished this spring.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says when Elder Corporation was working on the bridge, the contractor had to use a grass lot for their equipment and they unintentionally tore up the area in the process. Peterson says while there was an initial attempt to fix the area, more still needs to be done. “The only thing outstanding on this project is the lot just north of that bridge. They came in and did put some dirt down and seeded it, I think we got some rain on it and it exposed a whole bunch of rocks. So we obviously do not want a whole bunch of rocks in that lot, so we are going to have them come back in the spring. They are actually going to core out all that dirt, bring in new dirt, and then reseed that.”

At the most recent Perry City Council meeting, a payment was approved to Elder Corporation for $19,136.10, which was the release of the majority of the retainage. Peterson says there is still $3,360 left of the retainage, which according to rules imposed by the Department of Transportation is two-times the amount it would cost to have the work done. He also emphasizes that the City is very happy with the work done on the bridge, and the remaining work is just to fix what was disrupted during construction.
