We all want to be safe year round, and there are way too many opportunities out there for us to get injured, because of a lack of common sense.
Emergency Management Coordinator for Adair and Guthrie Counties, Bob Kempf says that a lot of people don’t realize just how dangerous Thunderstorms can be.
We all see the dangers involved with tornadoEs and their aftermath, but few think about lightning strikes.
Kempf says that the last storm related recorded fatality in Iowa was in 2008, when a 20 year old young man was killed out in his front yard.
“the best thing we can do is wait thirty minutes after we hear the last bit of thunder to make sure that we are out of range of the storm, because lightning can come down anywhere at anytime.”
Kempf says that as the severe weather season progresses the best thing we can do when we hear thunder is to seek shelter.
