The Jefferson VFW is collecting donations for the Greene County Freedom Rock project.

Post Commander Don Ihnken says donations can be dropped off at People’s Trust and Savings Bank in Jefferson.

He states that recently, the county supervisors authorized some funds to start the project and now they need to raise more money to complete it.

A local artist from Greenfield will be painting a one-of-a-kind mural on a selected rock which will be placed east of the marquee sign at the county fairgrounds in Jefferson on Lincoln Way.

Ihnken adds that they wanted to have it in Jefferson by the fairgrounds because they felt it was the most appropriate location for people to enjoy.

He notes that because Greene County is the 27th county on the list, the completion date is April 2016, but they are taking donations now.

Anyone with questions can call or stop by the VFW building in Jefferson of the east side of the downtown square.
