After several months of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes work, the Perry High School Drama Department is ready to open their spring musical this weekend.
The play is “Seussical: the Musical,” which is a story featuring characters and songs inspired by the varied works of Dr. Seuss. It’s being co-directed by teachers Jenn Nelson and Randy Peterson, and features a cast of around 40 students, with several others working backstage. Eoin Davis, who plays Horton the Elephant says the production should feel very familiar to people, even if they’ve never seen it before. “It’s Dr. Seuss, man! Everybody grew up on it. It’s all of Dr. Seuss’s characters, pretty much, connected seamlessly together through a great story. And it has great actors to back it up, with amazing musical numbers, and all around a great cast and great show.”
Brianna Fields, who plays Thing 1 but also helps a lot with the technical side, says the sets and costumes will make the musical worth the price of admission. “I just want to tell everyone that our stage looks amazing! And we have worked so hard on the set, and it looks so cool. It has paid off immensely. And on top of that, all of our characters look good, we are working so hard, and I just hope that everyone can come see how much hard work we’ve put into it. It’s just really, really fun, and it’ll be fun to watch!”
“Seussical: the Musical” will be performed Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., and there will be a matinee showing at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $8 for students and $10 for adults, and can be purchased ahead of time in the high school office or at the door.
