The Greene County Relay for Life main event is happening on Saturday.

The day starts at 9:30am at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson with team check-ins and 5K registrations, along with the silent auction, luminaria and 50/50 cash raffle sales and registration for the survivor/caregiver reception. The survivor group photo will take place at 10, followed by the survivor walk at 10:20 to the starting point of the 5K run/walk, which begins at 10:45.

A free-will pork and beef barbecue will be served from 11am to 1pm. Entertainment inside the community center includes the Prairie Blue Dancers at 11am, followed by “Find Your Super Talent” contest at 11:45. Everyone can then enjoy Power-Fully Fun Games at 12:25pm, with the sponsors to be recognized at 12:10 and the winner of the Team Spirit Award to be announced at 1. The silent auction bidding will end at 1:15 and the raffle sales will close at 1:30. The luminaria ceremony will wrap up the event at 1:50, featuring the Greene County Singers.

One of the largest parts to kick-start the main event is with businesses and organizations that contribute through sponsorships. The largest contributors are the Jefferson Kiwanis Club and American Athletic Incorporated/Spaulding at the platinum level with cash or in-kind donations of $1,250. The other levels range from gold of $1,000 to Hour of Hope of $100, which includes close to 40 different entities. Event Leadership Team Chair Tori Riley is excited about the sponsorships and invites everyone to a day of fun and fundraising for a good cause on Saturday.

“We’ve got all of the leaders in our community behind us. We need people, we need all of us to come and be apart of it. It’s a fun day, it’s like a party. Come participate in whatever way you can that day or look for the ways you can participate along the way.”

Plus, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be there broadcasting live from 9am to noon. We will also play music and make local announcements during the event.
