It’s officially prom season in central Iowa, with several events already passed and many coming soon.

With that in mind, Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn reminds students to be responsible with their revelry. In particular, he advises students attending prom parties to avoid alcohol or drug-use. “We just want to make sure that everybody has a safe prom event, so we try to deter those activities like alcohol use. We want to keep everybody safe coming and going from their events. We just want to make sure those kids have a safe and enjoyable time without using alcohol or some other type of drugs that may end up causing an accident, and get themselves hurt or maybe somebody else.”

The Perry High School Prom is this Saturday, and Vaughn is hopeful for another incident-free event. If anyone has information on dangerous activity going on this weekend, Vaughn encourages them to report it to the Perry Crimestoppers by calling 515-465-5661. He reminds would-be whistleblowers, there are rewards available to those who lead police to arrests.
